How to Train Your Legatus Empty How to Train Your Legatus

Azarov found his new home to be. . . interesting, to say the least. He had been here for some time, however he understood that Daul had had an engagement to attend. Something about her brother. Needless to say, he had been trying to occupy himself in some non-standard ways. For instance, there was the time he had set fire to his room by meditating, trying to tap into the power of the Star Engine consciously. Or the time he had nearly crushed everyone in the building by somehow creating a gravity field when had nearly killed the servants and suchlike, or the non-enhanced soldiers housed here. Undoubtedly word of these things had made its way to Daul. Some clues as to what his abilities might be? Probably. He still had no real control over it, however it was a display of his potential.

He was going a little stir-crazy, really just looking to vent his frustration at being left in a cubicle to wait upon Daul’s pleasure. That was when the summons arrived. He was dressed in the Alis base suit, black material stretched over the hard-packed muscle, but it wasn’t uncomfortable by any means. He stood when he heard the knock on his door. He had avoided venturing outside his room thus far, treating himself as a prisoner whether he was one or not. He knew these were people he didn’t really want to fuck with too much, so he figured it was best to sit tight and wait.

Opening the door he looked around at his own eye level, expecting a Dra’sin or equivalent. However, when a voice came from lower than that telling him the ‘Big Lady’ wanted him in the Coliseum, he looked down with his orange irises. A rather smaller being stood there, staring up at him. Azarov nodded, but when the Alis recruit turned away his meaty fist stretched out and gripped the male’s shoulder, “I’m new around here. Care to point me in the right direction?” The Alis jerked his thumb down the hallway, and as he moved to shrug off Azarov’s hand, the massive alien suddenly tightened it, putting strain on the bones, “I asked nicely. You can either catch a beating or be more specific. Up to you.”

The male gave him something more specific to to work with, and he let the guy go. Then he moved in the direction of the Coliseum. When he finally made his way out onto the silvery-white sand, he did a slow, three hundred sixty degree turn to look at it all. The contrast between the bright sand and the black marble. The inner ring of black sand. These people, he guessed, were unsubtle. Black and white, one might say. He liked that. Absolutes were clear. Right and wrong, us and them. It worked rather well in his mind. Shades of grey were confusing and tended to give him headaches. Azarov was a simple enough fellow. Just tell him who needed the beating and he’d dish it out. He moved out to the inner ring, his huge, bare feet leaving deep impressions in the sand.

Azarov would likely be a touch surprised that the Potentiae infantryman looked prepared to try and put up a fight. They weren’t spineless by any means and were known as the tanks and “meathead” front liners of all the Alis. They were the bodies on the ground and were known for being somewhat boisterous. In the case of the recruit? It seemed to physically pain him not to answer Azarov’s threat for a fight even though he understood he might well lose it. He wasn’t like the Primoris Potentiae from the god-like race known as the Dra’sin and nor was he as enhanced as the Alis Dominus who personally served the god-emperor himself. But dammit if being spoken to like a weak peon didn’t make him puff his chest out.

But he had been sent to deliver a message, not get himself pummeled to mincemeat by his ultimate authority’s baffling pet project. And so, with a sour face, he made sure to send Azarov in the correct direction. In the end, his Primoris might address such behavior. Who knew?

Daul would likely hear about it later. Speaking of the Primoris in question— she was standing in the opposing archway across the expanse of the structure; another of many dark archways where fighters and the like would enter from the levels below. She watched Azarov take in the architecture and gave him a full minute to do so before emerging from the shadows. The Primoris was adorned in simple garb meant for movement; a two piece suit of underarmor fabric made out of something similar to the emperor’s legendarily imperial garb. Obviously, not quite as jaw dropping and without her seal or cape. For once the woman’s arms were covered by form fitting sleeves and two cuffs or gauntlets with striations in faint, pulsing blue light were worn on either wrist. They served a purpose he would be privy to soon enough.

’I assume you’ve mulled it over— my proposition for employment under the Celesin banner as my Legatus?’ A rhetorical question as he would have been informed that he could refuse at any time. However, it did mean he might possibly be delivered back into the hands of those who meant to execute him. Daul, however, likely wouldn’t have fielded such a course of action. They’d agreed to trial by combat after all and he’d won. ’It would require full dedication to the Imperium along with my command. After, of course, we build a functioning and binding relationship.’ Now, the Dra’sin casually cleared her throat while tugging her sleeves up. Soon, she’d stand face to face with one of the few people in Lu’rae that managed to be taller than she was. Two fingers tapped over her left breast before she pointed to him.

’Part of that will require discipline with what you hold here. What is it called? And how was it acquired?’ Daul finished adjusting her clothing and stood with arms akimbo about twenty feet from where Azarov stood. There were a few things she wanted to know before committing on this journey and, as her quarry had likely gathered— training him until he found some semblance of discipline and control.

How to Train Your Legatus Empty Re: How to Train Your Legatus

The titanically built creature turned as soon as he heard the shifting of sand that accompanied the tread of a large person. He spotted his benefactor approaching and looked her over. At last. Someone was made available to help him train. He listened to her speak and he nodded in response, “I have. I find it to be an agreeable arrangement. I learn how to control my powers, and you get a soldier like no other.” He shifted, planting his feet and tilting his head from side to side. The bones popped, his vertebrae shifting. His hands rose, knuckles cracking as he clenched his fists. He then frowned slightly as he looked down at where her fingers tapped her chest and then he looked down at his own chest. Ah. She wanted to know what it was that gave him power. He nodded, “That is fair.”

Azarov lifted one hand and pulled down the collar of the stretchable fabric to show her the flat surface of the pulsing gem embedded in his flesh, “This is known as the Star Engine. Only seven were ever created. Within it is a trapped star. A sun at the height of it’s power. As for how I acquired it, that is simple. I stole it.” He released the fabric and folded his arms over his chest, “My people made them when we were at the height of our power. Trap a star and harness it’s power to fight for our empire. Legends were made out of the men and women who harnessed the Star Engines. Great warriors who conquered whole planets, or destroyed them. Now my people are on the decline. Most of the Engines were lost. I found this one in a tomb, and I went through the ritual to bond it to my flesh so that I might escape a dying world. However, I did not count upon the fact that it would alter my body or be so hard to control. I have been leaping from world to world for a few years now, by my count, with very little success in mastering my abilities.”

He moved toward her a few steps, “I hope you have more success. I am tired of being shunted from one world to the next, hoping that I wouldn’t land on some planet with a toxic atmosphere.” He had no idea, but he had probably been on worlds that would have been toxic to him without the Star Engine and his altered physiology. He wanted to know the full potential of the Engine and how much he was capable of with it.
