The Ultonis had not set foot in such a venue for a long time, this was where he had forged himself, sure the stonework was different, the location in the heart of the Imperium rather than the barren wastes that had become the Nexxian old realm. It had been too long... Too long since he had found a test of mettle, and his first match was against the Emperors scion. Caden was not a prodigy, not like Daul or Sune'Ere, he was like Fenris, he had achieved everything through hard-work, through passion. They were comrades, but Fenris had not come this far to acquiesce to defeat, even against the Emperors son, and the man who had saved his life.

When it came to the nitty-gritty Fenris knew he could not easily compete with Cadens speed, and though his own swiftness was formidable it was nowhere near on the same specialized tier as Cadens, what Fenris had was his perception, but it seemed a stark-resource compared to the Fulminis' sheer mobility. He knew all of this instinctively, not requiring time to think it out, he did not get lost in his thoughts, for he knew if he allowed even an instant of distraction he could lose the match. It would take more than perception to win, but if nothing else Fenris was adaptable.

Thusly he arrived at the designated point at a steady pace, his frame loose and ready, his vigilance maintained with care, his form a quarter unbound from the materium adding a certain fluid grace to his movements that denoted the ease through which Fenris navigated causality. No he was not as fast as the Fulminis, but speed was not everything, nor was whatever Fenris had to offer. The wind whispered and the earth groaned telling him their secrets with every step he made.

He did not stop at the center of the pit, he only came about a quarter of the way towards it, he did this because it would give him more of a hint as to the direction Caden would have to come from, at least initially. An open space was to his disadvantage here and not just due to Cadens speed, Fenris knew the static magi was at its apex in open places though perhaps not as much here. This was how it had to be. He had already begun gathering his intent, preparing to focus it upon a task, the power he could bring to bear building steadily within the confines of his form. His right leg forward with his weight resting on his back left. His white cloak obscuring his frame from view as his intrinsic arming simultaneously trickled to the surface of his body from his fingertips. Fenris had heard they were not to hold back, but he assumed at least as a professional courtesy they would be given a signal to begin, he was prepared at least if Caden started with no warning, the beginnings of a strategy perhaps taking shape in his feral mind.

Caden vs Fenris (CGG) Empty Re: Caden vs Fenris (CGG)

The sand was hardly foreign beneath his boots; the soft crunch of every step only seemed to echo whispers of grace. Even walking the motions of the Fulminis Primoris were fluid, and liquid like. Turqoise eyes regarded Fenris almost dispassionately; it wasn’t that Caden disliked the man. Far from it, they were comrades he might even say friends.  He liked the man, but emotion was a weakness here, he was Fir’an, and lest he became susceptible to his rage emotion would cloud his focus. Once Caden would have avoided this confrontation even at his father’s behest for the sake of these… grand games, but slowly Caden had become more accepting of his role as a Primoris. Of his duty to fight, to kill, never again would he allow that tragedy to take place.

But what few of the Primoris knew, though he suspected Daul had a hunch. Caden had come to love the thrill of battle; that much he could certainly say passed from father to son. Even it had been repressed for so many centuries. The reflective light in his eyes was suddenly absorbed, their natural glow increased as verdant fires laced his Sclera. He didn’t have the permanent flame yet except when using his core. But few Dra’sin outside the Emperors ever achieved the eternal fires.

Already he felt the shackles of restraint lifting as Core Magi flooded his form, and from beneath his cloak two shimmering arcs of light extended from his grip. The crackle of lightning as it extended around what were suddenly the Gladius blades; one subdued as a might night sky, the other pure as fresh fallen snow.  His grip turned, reversing on the white Gladius, which seemed to be almost smoking now.  As the tip of the blade brushed past the sand, the proximity left a frost trail, clumps of sand frozen solid.

The black blade almost seemed to hum, the air about its slightly lustrous edge appearing distorted. His snow white cloak rippling as the blade passed it by.  With his dual Gladius drawn forth from his core, Caden’s chosen weapons when he crafted his Magi Knight’s focus.  The pommel of each sword holding a small crystal that glowed with internal light.  His usual kindly expression had vanished entirely, the half-smile he always seemed to have no a mask of Apathy.  It seemed Caden was taking this seriously after all, especially as his next step seemed to echo. A resonance filling the air that only grew with the next.

They had a large open space in the nearly deserted Coliseum, only the massive central pillar which acted as an elevator and entrance for various means was submerging beneath the sands. Caden didn’t need to look to one end of the elliptical ring to know his father was watching from his pulvinis, beneath the massive statues of the Emperor and Empress. He simply stepped again, letting his Core Magi build, the resonance of his steps increasing. As once the central pillar finally settled their bout would begin.

Caden vs Fenris (CGG) Empty Re: Caden vs Fenris (CGG)

Fenris saw the arrival of the Emperors scion, he kept his gaze neutral, his own thoughts his own, kept captive in the recesses of the Primal-Mind. The twin-blades of the magi-knight acknowledged via the golden gaze of the Ultonis. The trickling of Quae-Fueram left the pores of his hand forming a translucent shimmering blade that had a darker hue. It was as if Fenris was wielding a construct of solid shadow and light, the hand enclosing upon the grosse-messer as it materialized. It was not overtly long, allowing comfort in being wielded with one or two hands.

He continued to build power as the pillar lowered, a count-down it seemed too the beginning. He knew once it finished its descent, Caden would move quickly, and would have the advantage in initiative. Fenris however was content on "Over-watch". In perfect synchronization with the pace of the pillars decent, Fenris blade drifted lower in tandem, so at the exact moment the pillar had reached its final destination, his blade would touch the ground channeling the power he had gathered through it, and into the medium of the earth, while his free right hand remained defensively placed chambered to bring the forearm partially in front of him ready to defend.

The result saw the motion channeled into the ground cause a localized oscillation as the composition of the earth reacted to the infusion causing the ground around Fenris to erupt. The force moving through the matter influencing the basic tranformation induced by the catalyst that was sundering earth into clusters of criss-crossing spikes within 20 feet around him, and also causing the ground beneath his feet to elevate about 8 feet in a sloped hill. Additional Quae-Fueram infused into the ground through the tactile contact with the sword, two fragments in play, the one in his hand and the one in the ground, while minute particles of debris rose from the earth.

The spikes were placed seemingly in a vague pattern, peppering the ground around him every so often with the potential hazards present in all directions but leaving more than a few gaps between each cluster as often as having them intersect, creating a small makeshift maze. He knew Caden would have an answer to this, but a vague strategy had now formed. He knew Caden's positioning, and was seeking to shave the options his mobility afforded him as much as possible. Even if he could make it before the transmutation finished Fenris more or less felt he knew the direction Caden could come from, and was prepared to defend. If Caden negated this with Magi, at the very least it would be that much less magi he could call upon later.

Caden vs Fenris (CGG) Empty Re: Caden vs Fenris (CGG)

The eyes of a Dra’sin saw so much more than most realized. But to claim it an actuality of vision would be incorrect, it was simply their presence. The Fulminis knew he had the initiative advantage, his speed was all but unparalleled and this offered Caden the advantage of choosing when to engage. Contrary to Fenris original assumptions Caden’s form did not suddenly disappear in the burst of speed for the attack. Instead he took another step, the resonance that echoed from this step held a slight difference. It would be imperceptible to most, perhaps Fenris would notice the pang through the ambient. But that hardly revealed what it was. With that final step it would begin, Caden’s eyes a blaze as the Force Projection radiated from his form into the surroundings. It was necessary. With everything falling into place Caden’s face revealed the ghost of a smirk as while he stood directly before Fenris. The sensation of Caden’s presence was everywhere. From all directions throughout the coliseum’s floor if Fenris closed his eyes his senses would tell him Caden was everywhere at once.

Now it could begin. Lifting Storm Rage, the black bladed Gladius it’s distortion of wind shifted and a vibrant blinding flash of light suddenly exploded from its blade. In that brief moment of blindness Caden would move. The Magi released from his feet hardening the air allowing him to walk through the empty air as if solid ground. The flow of his Core in Body Cascade bringing to bear the truth of his speed, and perhaps most oddly of all his grip released both swords. Yet instead of falling they moved with him for a fleeting moment before moving on their own. Once vision returned Fenris would be awarded with the view of not one, but three very distinct images of Caden.

His awareness would be of little use here, and Caden’s tremendous speed had closed the distance between Fenris and himself in that moment of blindness. The echoing sound of the sonic boom that announced Caden’s shattering of the sound barrier had finally caught up. Yet all three forms seemed solid in truth, Caden bare handed came from Fenris right, the cackling electricity arcing off the Air Shroud wasn’t just for sure it was dangerous. Erratic bolts could shock and stun his foe as he moved in for a swift right jab to Fenris’ solar plexus. Caden’s hips turning as his right foot led. Standing in the air above the debris which had ceased being an issue for the moment.

Yet the simple approach was only one of three. The remaining two forms similarly shrouded in the crackling Airshroud held different avenues of attack. One wielding the freezing white Gladius still in a reverse grip of the left hand brought the blade around, coming in from Fenris’ left flank, the blades path a close rising arc that would sever the thigh if not stopped and leave quite the vicious effect behind. And there was one more still, the midnight blade, shrouded with a distortion of air and charged with lighting crashed down from above in the third Caden’s right hand. A brutal over hand strike meant to cleave through Fenris’ skull and down to his waist.

Unlike his father Caden wasn’t as skilled in Force Reactive use of the Magi and beyond. He had instead chose to hone his skills in first three forms to a point of mastery. Sure he could use the others, but for now he displayed his ability. Utilizing Body Cascade, Force Projection, and Core Extension intertwined and seamlessly in what he had come to call, Phase Step. Perhaps for once even his father would be impressed with the only child that had not been born a prodigy.

Caden vs Fenris (CGG) Empty Re: Caden vs Fenris (CGG)

Fenris' natural perceptions had been compromised by the inherant ambiguity of magi, but the tactic was something Fenris was intimately familiar with. Fenris intuitively realized something in that moment, though Caden could nullify the Ultonis' natural perceptions, those were only part of his awareness. Intuition, experience where what allowed him to be able to discern how and when to act. He did not need to know where Caden was, to know it was time to act when the area was saturated by that blinding light.

Fenris raised his blade as it extended and split into dozens of extending lines, crossing at randomized angles omnidirectionally around the Ultonis, leaving no space for Caden to bypass the sudden mass of sharpened tendrils unless he physically shrunk down, which moved simultaneously to cover Fenris' form. Acting as both a form of offense and defense, while also relying on Cadens momentum to bring him into the embrace of those living blades. It did not matter which one was real, though perhaps they all were, Fenris essentially creating a living moving sharpened fence of intersecting edges around him, relying on covering more space, and greater reach to answer Cadens speed as each strand moved independently. Though he might not have been able -react- he was simply attacking everything around him all at once, the moment he lost sight of the Fulminis.

Though Fenris' awareness of his opponent was compromised, that did not compromise the precision of his attacks, though as this action was randomized his only concern was keeping himself from being struck, an easy feat requiring minor passive effort. The attack potentially lacerating the incoming Fulminis' perhaps even snaring them in the attack, or at the very least repelling them or buying time. Though he was not sure how the "fake" Cadens would react, there was only one way to find out. The action of Fenris' maneuver would create a wake in their movement, a flow that would be generated by the quicksilver movement of the shapeless form. Fenris attuning himself with the ambient as he did so resonating with the created harmony.

As he did this, quae-fueram trickled through his pores coating his body in a pelt of knives, as an 8 foot tail emerged from his spine, while his cloak was also bonded to the substance joining with his hair creating a great "mane" as Fenris' body was coated leaving only patches of his face free. Blades emerging from his knees and elbows as well. The action was maintained as he took on the new-form, seeking to build momentum. He still had that Quae-Fueram in the ground as well, and it took its own initiative and burst upward concurrently with the lashline fence and drawn up in the wake of the quae-fuerams sustained motion. This in turn created a whirlwind of sharpened particles that intensified the fluctuations caused by the quicksilver weapons movement, as well as threatening to skin anything that got too close, and adding an extra layer to the Ultonis initial maneuver while the ambient itself started to become more maleable.
