The changing face of the future

Post by Arcerion on Wed Aug 10, 2016 10:13 pm

Arcerion had a need to talk with his niece, and in as private a setting as he could manage. Her club should provide the cover he needed, after all it had been rather rude of him not to pay his respects in a place that brought in a noticeable amount of wealth for a fringe system. Traveling by starship however brought far too much attention, and not having set foot on Rosa Decidua there was no gate established between the two. So within his private chambers in Sydokai he did something he actually rarely made known to others he was still connected too. He prayed, in his own way. Extending his voice outwards in the words he and Thargor had learned to commune with the true Highlord, Eaa. The firmament around him, warped and consumed his body, transporting him to the realm of what he thought was nothingness as Thargor had described it. His consciousness protected by his power and faith. This No Space, served as a link to anything that was not warded, or contained a connection to it.

In this case the office’s of Heaven’s Blade was his destination, a shadowy corner his entrance point. Bending space for normal co-location travel was taxing on the power pools, but this served a much better and less taxing form of transportation. Stepping forth from the Eaa Linked space, the only announcement of his coming presence was the sound of water pipes groaning before he simply was. Arcerion did not need to impress his niece, years of conquering and trusting her with knowledge beyond even some of the lower caste nobles would of done just this. So Arcerion stood in the same way he had stood before her father Mundus. Disheveled hair of black to snow white, a simple unbuttoned long coat, and shirt beneath it, with black slacks and battle worn boots. Of course his chains were ever present, when were they not? The predatory grin upon his face spoke that he’d come to make something more than a simple house call. There were things that needed to be discussed here, that could not of been done at the bar with Nabonasar. And maybe he might find something else out about their connection here.

He looked to any obvious screens, with business data or musical data about what was currently being pumped through the club’s speakers. He did always have a fascination with music, so he found a place like this to be perfect for someone of true Shuinsai capabilities. “Is this what the fringes listen to then? An interesting mix no doubt. Easy to hide subliminal audio commands. Spend more, enjoy yourselves, tell the servers your secrets.” Maybe he assumed too much of her, maybe this was just music for music’s sake. No catches, and nothing that could interfere with business.

However Nebu and maybe other associates that were there reacted to his presence he would simply wave away, the old Arcerion persona was so much easier to keep going then the emperor one he had woven for himself after ages. “As much as I would like to say this was a simple visit, I would be lying to family. You know what high respect I hold you in. The face of our whole collective of miscreants and misfits is changing. The Bales become more active in the passing months, and new pets are brought into the fold, along with old faces. You recall the Prison I assume? An emperor abandoned his duty, and now resides in sydokai. A reality may fall with his departure, but we have interesting recordings. Of our prisoner in action.” Hopefully that peaked his niece’s interest.

Should Arcerion have brought himself directly to her, he’d find himself on the second loft in the club known simply as “The Floor” of Heaven’s blade. Indeed there were screens showing chaotic, enthralling images which were hard to make out. Swaying bodies, wilting flowers, flashes of war footage, a woman smearing something across her face. While they were not imbued with any subliminal messages the constant stream of images were carefully chosen to induce frisson amongst the patrons and always seemed to match up perfectly with the heavy bass.

Luckily, the loft was a bit quieter thanks to noise dampening fields— they didn’t cut out everything that made The Floor him with activity, but, it made conversation possible. Currently, Nebuchadnezzar stood overlooking the main floor;hands on the minimalist ash black half wall that acted as a barrier erected just high enough to keep inebriated fat cats from tumbling over the edge and splattering all over the fun below. Something clear in a martini glass was situated on the top of the barrier; held between her elegantly tapered fingers tipped with a matte black manicure. The arrival of the emperor of the empire would inspire the King to turn around; her hair pulled into a single ‘goddess’ braid scaling the center of her skull and her garb in sheer white with matching fur fringe. A look some might find jarring on her, but— it sent a message about the ethereal figure...giving the impression she might be even more a hive queen than thought. A perfect look for a marchioness.

’Ah, I would not engage in such unscrupulous behavior, would I? Uncle Arcerion?’ from Nebuchadnezzar who then smiled with lips stained a deep plum rather than the usual pale nude shade or sinful red.  And of course she would be so underhanded— that was the joke, after all. But Heaven’s Blade was such a success for her motives that the King hadn’t found the need to sway it’s patrons with anything other than a truly good time, overpriced and rare spirits, a place to gamble and a bordello. ’Can I have anything brought for you?’ she’d ask of him; immediately smiling a touch wider as she would likely summon Saee for the task. There was something amusing about putting the plush, submissive little hostess in uncomfortable scenarios.

As Arcerion spoke he would, of course, have her attention. And aside from the occasional server in black and the customary red Oni mask they would have privacy for the most part. The Floor’s staff knew better than to allow anyone in the loft when their madam was occupying the space. When Arcerion mentioned the Bales, he would find Nebuchadnezzar smirking before taking a sip of her drink.

’Would Helivant be one of the Bales in question? We’ve met before.’ Intimately, no less. It wasn’t something she intended to hide from the emperor as they both understood where her loyalties and motives truly lay. ’As for the prison and he that it holds, that is quite interesting indeed. Would you appreciate discussing this on my private space at the height of the tower? Should it truly be a sensitive matter…it is never unwise to err on the side of caution.’

Arcerion simply looked outwards at the floors and listened to the music and observed the flashing images. Cute, and a nice way to keep the mood ever changing. He could appreciate it, there were morsels out there he could feed off of, though he didn’t take the desired potential banquet, that would be rude. After all encroaching on another’s territory was bad form, and already he was dangerously close to another of his kin. As she mentioned that she wouldn’t do something like that he gave his niece a sidelong glance and grin, knowing that she would in fact pull something like that. It was their way to manipulate the mortal population to their end goals. By whatever means possible. When a drink was offered he would nod. “Some red wine, the people say it helps with digestion, and I’ve just finished a rather large banquet. More nobles rising to their calling. You know, my duties are so bothersome sometimes. But if one of them can prove useful it will be worth it to stomach their cuisine.

He wandered the ground of the floor almost aimlessly, then again when Arcerion was thinking. He was notorious for pacing not unlike a man who awaited news of his wife in the delivery room, while his thoughts wandered, certainly much better than the self-harm he did while alone. As she mentioned Helivant he would grin. “The fleshcrafter yes. While he is quite abrasive he has a loyalty to the Empress that I won’t doubt. Though I’m sure he has ulterior motives, he won’t be able to get far without our blessings, considering the state of things.

When she mentioned erring on the side of caution he would ponder it over. He could display power and ward the room from intrusion, and yet if the King in his service thought it best to go somewhere else he would not deny her such things. “Yes I believe caution to be of the utmost importance. While I highly doubt that our enemies delve into the art of information gathering to the degree we do, I would not put it past a single patron down there to be plants from our enemies. Internal or external, it is best we discuss my reason for coming unannounced in private.

He could of waited to be lead away before continuing the whole of the conversation, but he liked the thought of beings having a presence here that they might report to their masters. All it would take would be well timed words to set his enemies on the defensive. So while they waited for transportation, or moved towards the heights of the tower Arc would speak. “I’ve a very interesting recording from your cousin Sergei. It may yet be time that we pick up the blade again, I wonder just what your information network has told you.” He pondered a moment what other tidbits he should drop should they in fact be under observation. “I suppose I’ll have to take a harsher hand with Jophiel. She is doing what she can to keep her betrothed under control.” He chuckled at the whole of it, so easily manipulated were those in love. Their minds not as focused as their elders and betters. Once they reached the pinnacle of Heaven’s Blade, and not a moment before would Arc keep his thoughts more or less to himself. Surely now his niece knew that there would be more to come. Not simple facts of the ongoing state of politics she could easily gleam. No there were other things he had kept almost entirely to himself, thing which could change the future of Dorian. Some might see this as him paying a visit to his niece, in reality he was consorting with one of his closest advisors.

The King extended her right hand to show some sort of conforming slave bracelet with small, black chains leading to a ring around the top phalange of each finger. A subtle ringing could be heard as her fingers danced over the air. The device was a more secure and subtle way for her to control Heaven’s Blade in every way, literally, from her fingertips. Other protocols could be found at her desk console and the only ‘key’ to the penthouse was, quite literally, her core and the ability to engage Mütter. It would be the artificial intelligence and custodian in question that belayed the order to Saee. Somewhere in the second tier a pale, perhaps even albino hostess with colorless hair swallowed hard and knit her brow as the devil-woman summoned her and a most expensive bottle of red Bordeaux.

Never a good sign in Saee’s eyes. Lately, meeting the Matrix’s friends and family had been just little too eventful for her.

’I have a bottle on the way. Please, make yourself comfortable,’ And it was an empty if polite platitude. Arcerion’s “comfort” manifested in various ways. In this, he chose to pace the floor with the air of an almost doe-eyed child full of wonder. Combined with psychotic stress and instability, of course— but that was her beloved Uncle and emperor, after all. Nebuchadnezzar at least seized one of the black couches and settled in; crossing her long and mostly bare legs. There was no effort to put on a show or an attempt to seduce a family member, it was that she never could turn the appeal off. ’As for Helivant I certainly got the impression he was loyal only to himself. But, it was more difficult than usual for me to learn what I could about his and Kanatal’s kind.’ And, Arc knew how she learned. It wasn’t as if she was ashamed of it.

Just then, the door was given a small triple-knock per protocol before Saee entered with her silver and white uniform, crimson eyes turned to the floor and a platinum tray boasting two stemless and expensive looking wine glasses and the ordered Bordeaux. The petite hostess seemed to be doing her best to render herself invisible and unintrusive as she placed the tray in front of Nebuchdnezzar and set about pouring too glasses— only to find a hand rose to stop one being passed to the King before the motion to the emperor was made. The Mistress would drink in due time but she wanted to see to it that the most important figure in the room was served first. Thus, Arc would no doubt be amused by the overly nervous albino bunny of a woman making an attempt to bring him his wine with a smile that even seemed to shiver.

’If you would prefer privacy it would be best if we held our conversation in my penthouse.’ And one could see Saee visibly relax— she wasn’t allowed on the Blade’s topmost floor. Only the King and select few chosen guests and family members had ever seen the inside of it. The hostess allowed herself a sigh of relief as she watched the pair leave the room for Nebuchadnezzar’s private lift.

’Welcome back, dóttir ‘ from a voice seeming to sound from the walls of the lift until the doors opened into a massive space in pale concrete, cream, white with deeply stained wooden accents and furniture. A three story single chamber with free floating stone steps leading halfway up the wall to what was surely the King’s bed platform high above their heads. Now, she was free to respond to Arcerion’s words as there truly was no more secure place on Rosa Decidua to do so.

’Oh, I have heard quite a bit. It would seem the threads are already intersecting. Is it odd that I am at least somewhat surprised Mesiphidon would make a move against a planet-bound empire? Even if it is a worldpower upon Sanctum?’ As she had refused wine earlier, Nebuchadnezzar would consult a liquor cabinet for cognac before taking a seat across from her uncle. ’You’ll likely find it interesting that I have had my brother— the one you met recently— come to me in hopes that I would assist him in a way most dangerous. Not to be directly involved myself, but, he can be such a rigid thinker. He would like to be every bit the weaponized King for what he sees as a fast approaching and dire scenario,’ A sip and she’d absentmindedly swirl the cognac. ’If he is that worried, it must have been quite an event.’

At Arcerion’s mention of Jophiel and her betrothed the King had to give him a wide smile and laugh. Truer words had never been spoken.

’A harsher hand is always an efficient way to go, isn’t it? I find it fascinating that she somehow fell into step with a Primoris of all people, anyway. That woman is ah...well. She’s handsome, I suppose. Your niece seems very euphoric about the arrangement,’’ Another smile as if she’d made a joke only she could understand before marching on. ’There are surely many ways to use the betrothal to Dorian’s advantage, I am sure. Perhaps not immediately in such delicate times, of course. That aside, what was the summary of Sergei’s recording?’

Re: The changing face of the future

Arcerion continued his pacing, eyeing everything and keeping his mind working along with everything that his senses gave him. Finally as his niecesettled down his eye's wandered over her for a moment and he grinned for just a moment. A creature of her own design, if she had decided to turn off her other worldly charm, it would certainly take a concerted effort on her own part. He adored that about her, as logical as she could be and manipulative, she never hid her nature. It made her trustworthy in an odd way to the exercion emperor. An advisor who spoke her mind without fear of ramifications was harder to find than a flaw in celesin tactics.

"The Bales enjoy their magics and wards more than most. I find each of them and their motives to be wild cards which can be used to further our goals so long as we keep them sated and on long leashes. I prefer only to yank on the leash when they cross a line even I wouldn't cross. So it is a rare time that any of them need a lesson taught to them. So long as he works for us, we'll have no problems from Helivant, and his flesh crafting could be useful to potentially recreate works from my age if I can gain enough information." As the red wine was delivered to him he would nod appreciatively to Saee, eyeing the woman for a moment before giving her a smile which showed no teeth. He appreciated her services even in some small form. He sipped he wine and enjoyed the vintage. Thinking a moment he could understand where people had understood that it actually helped with digestion. Yes this would help calm his upset stomach.

As they ascended to the penthouse he would talk as planned before, giving plants to whatever things were listening, but once within the actual penthouse he would return to his usual method of thinking. Taking in everything here, and subtly testing his will against the wards in place here. Once the emperor was satisfied with the integrity of it all he would hear his niece and respond in kind. "I as always leave your races affairs with you. Though having two weaponized Kings within one alliance? It may come down to an offer that is too good to pass up." As for Celesin, well that just brought a grin to him. "Cut your main foe off from their allies. However small, they have proven to Mesiphidon that they are at least worthy of a Kings attention. Better to bring them into their fold now before they gain any form of true power. Plus our ground presence at the moment is limited in comparison. I doubt they even realize what I've made in Korel and its purpose. So if they wish to war with Black Sun, they are welcome to. Allowing us more time to sit back and gather our power base." He waited a moment for any response from his niece before he would remove a small cluster of gems from his pocket. Crushing one effortlessly in his hand he would cause the recording Sergei had given him to play for them. Activating from the moment he had chirped in his native language. It wasn't a matter of a recreation, they were currently seeing the whole event play out before them from Sergei's perspective. Cutting off as he took the small prince away from the discussion, and giving tentative glances back at Ghanima.

He watched her reaction to it all, before giving her a brief moment to take it all in and think it over before speaking again. "Quite an event indeed. It seems sooner rather than later I shall be summoned by Black Sun to deal with our alliance with them. As I said, war may be the only way to add time to the clock." He chuckled a moment and tossed another gem into the air and caught it, almost for dramatic emphasis. Crushing this one would cause the palace recording of him an Zaro's interactions to play out before Nebuchadnezzar. Repeating the action once more he would speak this time. "But wait! There's more!" This next recording was one of multiple view points, enough that it would cover the whole of the penthouse in many views as their prisoner broke out of the prison and wreaked havoc upon Zaro's home reality. Decimating forces left and right until finally something blazing in the distance cut off all communications with that version of Dorian. However the amount of time those recordings played out were long enough to get a true taste of just what Noque would be capable of if released.

When all the information was given he would look to her and sip his wine with a little smirk. "I'm sure that was a lot of information to take in. I'm prepared to answer any questions you might have for me. After all you could hardly properly advise me without the full picture of what we work with." He waited, thinking everything over for moments and waiting to answer questions. Surely she would be full of them, from the knowledge of other Exercions they had never counted on, to the fact that Celesin was an ever present force at least on one other realm. However Arcerion had one pressing question, something he had wanted to ask potentially for years.

"I'm sure you've read our texts, you know of Thargors old religion of the Highlords. The power it grants his followers. Can you shed any light onto this concept of Nothingness he brought before us? I feel its immense power may be something I may need to bring to bear against our enemies in time."

Re: The changing face of the future

Post by Nebuchadnezzar on Sun Oct 02, 2016 6:16 am

”So long as he works for you? Ah, yes...he certainly seems like he has a great many talents to offer the Shuinsai and empire,’ Which was putting it mildly. Still, Nebuchadnezzar did not appreciate being unable to read someone even after they had been in more than simple contact but extremely intimate. All magic in her eyes was complex technology— it meant that she certainly didn’t need to be a practitioner who was well versed in “wards” and whatnot as her uncle had said in relation to Helivant; it meant there was a puzzle to solve and perhaps having that in her toolbox would give her the upper hand in so many possible scenarios. Of course she was going to pursue those answers.

’Well, you understand my kind...always offering service to those who have proven themselves worthy of it— and of concern.’ The King sipped her cognac and offered Arcerion a coquettish smile when he spoke of having two Kings on his side of things even if one was a step away from truly being called as such. It gave him a very nice deck of cards to deploy— even if her core and it’s abstract tethers to her other half and twin could certainly complicate things. Not to mention Esarhaddon’s proximity to the ancient Dra’sin resources and their damnable Magi— yet another puzzle piece that Nebuchadnezzar was absolutely ravenous for.

The dark haired woman took a seat as Arcerion pulled out his gem and showed her a few stories. She might have looked bored if her eyes hadn’t become a macabre shade of solid red; all semblance of iris and pupil lost in the ferruginous effect. Nebu wasn’t simply watching the display; she was recording and analyzing it and would after have the ability to project an exact copy in the future should there be some details of importance to snag on.

’Really, you spoil me.’A small expression of mirth as her uncle humorously offered to feed her more data— and it was such a buffet. She hadn’t known much about the Zaros character until now, and, she wondered if others in the true bloodline had been made aware. Perhaps Prince Lucian?  ’Ah, my wonderful Khal there is no such thing as “too much to take in” for a King. That is part of what makes us special,’ Nebu stood again and tucked an arm under her breasts while the other one held her cognac adjacent to her chin. Languidly, she paced and enjoyed the feeling of her heels sinking into the hyper-expensive shearling carpet she’d insisted upon for her penthouse.

’Do you imagine I would be able to confer with this….Zaros?’ she’d ask. However, his following plea to engage her in something of more importance would put that specific query on hold. He asked her a question about nothing and would inspire her to cease her pacing and face him. Nebu appeared to be processing how to conceptualize and answer for him.

’I have read the texts. And I believe “Nothing” is related, similar or exactly the same as my Borgism’s understanding of it. We are...constructed of something that should be considered ‘nothing’ and yet here I am...obviously,’ The woman cleared her throat and sipped her cognac— a long pull before moving in to break it down. ’To be frank, Khal there isn’t truly a such thing as “nothing”. One might say the space between stars and worlds and even the void between dimension is “nothing” but I can confirm it is always something. Other forms of matter, energy, the space between worlds. Nothing is always teeming, bursting with something— even if one cannot conceive of it or perceive it, either,’ She put her drink on the nearest flat surface and steepled her fingers over her solar plexus. ’I believe this is what Thargor may have come to understand and also it is possibly the catalyst and vehicle used for his, as you call it...ascendance.’

She’d look Arcerion over for quite a moment before coming to an attendance. 'When Man split the atom centuries ago on any number of worlds, we understand that an explosion occurred, powerful radiation and the force of it, even if minuscule could effect space-time. Before, we imagined "nothing" was connecting each atom to make a molecule. It truly is "nothing" as well-...the word 'quark' was placed there merely for comfort. And what happened when Man split the dimensions in a much more private affair? We Kings were born.' She left him to consider the metaphor; incredible explosions from exposing nothing just by splitting the building blocks for natural matter. A bit deeper into the realm of existence itself yielded intelligence, immense power and again it seemed to come from "nothing". Nothing was both something and somewhere....would he begin to get the picture?

’Have I ever invited you to my other home? My third residence, that is— the House of Leaves?’ As if he really wanted to take a single step further in understanding there were answers in the manor behind doors that refused to stay in one place.
