The Dorian Emperor himself had come to Sanctum once more to oversee the final bits of construction for his city on Sanctum. Bought with coin, favor and the promise of an alliance, it had certainly gone over easier than he had anticipated. Maybe it was Sergei's influence on Ghanima that had won him the day, or his delightful nature. The deed had been done and now sprawling around him was the city of Korel. It's sectors already buzzing with the hum of activity as people gathered for what would be the first real festival. The town was to officially become a city and a seat of power, as the last building would be made, by the Dorian Emperor himself. The walls and defenses were manned, the mines had been shut down for the moment, and ports closed. Only scouts and a massive spore field had been projected to inform him if enemies would take this moment of greatness to strike at their heart.

Invitations had been sent out and delivered, to his thralls of alien nature who would soon be training his young son. To his niece in her house of leaves, and his niece in trouble with his own mother. Of course his mother had been invited and more sent to his son and daughter, to the Garadon clan, so remiss to participate in events their leader had set in motion long eons ago, to the Empress and her champion consort to be. Even his Bale cousins had been invited to join in the festivities, with promise of food and favor. The only people who were not invited from his family were those which swore allegiance to Celesin, after all though family they were in an odd way, he found it near impossible to trust them not to try and strike at his heart in this moment.

Arcerion stood in trappings of his station, much to his displeasure. Large boots that came just below the knee's laced up and tight with black slacks tucked into the tops. A thick black cloth shirt hung just over his waist line, embroidered with the red symbol of the Stygian Raven, gripping a blade in its talons across the breast. White trim in taste full lines crossed the chest of this shirt allowing it to cling to his frame a little more tightly. Over top the shirt was a black surcoat with white trim that was knee length. A cape hung from his shoulders, red on the underside and black on the outside. Once more the blood red Stygian Raven clutching a blade in its talons, just this time much larger than the other instance of it. A pure white mantle hung from his shoulders, with only a his right shoulder being decorated as befitted his station. Crossed blades across the shoulder on an upraised portion of the mantle as was befitting of a man who had lead multiple battles and succeeded. None of those had been bestowed upon him by himself. Every single one of his medals was a prize taken from a fallen enemy commander who refused to submit. White gloved hands held his staff. The staff itself was the true sign of his status as emperor. The twisting white and black metal moved together in a spiral that moved upwards towards his head. The metal of the staff was malleable and seemed to flow in his hands. At the very tip it extended out at four points and then converged once again to make a large diamond, with thick glass around it. Floating in the center was the jewel of the empire. The Black Sun Phylactery. A jewel of deep darkness that seemed to suck light into it. Removing a hand from the staff he would run it through his two-toned hair and look to where guests may be arriving at any moment.

The Exercion awaited his children, and mayhaps his empress would grace him with her beautiful presence this day. Standing before a mile wide and half a mile deep hole in the center of the city he would begin to pluck at unseen strings in the air with his free hand. Weaving a harmonious tune for all to hear as he summoned up powers from deep within him. It would be risky to call forth what was necessary, however the Sander's had informed him that the strength of the spore field would be enough to hide the presence he would call into being, and would in fact allow him to for once in long eons unleash himself like the god being his brother had ascended to. They even believed it may allow him a momentary communication with Thargor himself, possibly offering premonitions and other interesting side affects of viewing the universe as it was meant to be. The other holds would compensate, and his door would stay closed for the moment.

It was worth the risk as more of the populous gathered, this was to be his gift to his son and daughter. This city, this town, this power. They were his legacy, and For Lucian and Emarra Vileur-Shuinsai he would give both of his beautiful children nothing short of the whole of creation. Though he did not, could not ever find it within himself to love them, he would give them the stepping stones to make him proud of them.

"Come children, come adventurers, come curious denizens of Sanctum and people seeking fortune and fame, honor and glory. Korel shall be your cradle to the star you seek!" He spoke in tune with his music, for all to hear as the tune faded off from its crescendo into a infectious beat that went through the hearts of all gathered. "I Arcerion Itath Vileur-Shuinsai officially open this mighty city, and may it cast a shadow on all others."

Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open] Empty Re: Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open]

It was time.

Time to arrive at his soon to be new capital. His new home that he would set right. It was time for him to truly show he was the heir to his father. It was time for so much to change within the Empire. His own position within the Empire would be even more secure with the announcement of his ruling over the city of Korel. The first stronghold of the Dorian Empire within the Sanctum.

And it was his to command and lead from. It was his to rule.

But that was for his father to announce. Not him. It was his father to bestow it to upon him. Not for him to declare it himself to the populace or to the family who was no doubt to be attending this event. The Prince couldn't deny his own nervousness. He was the Prince of the Dorian Empire, heir to his father's rule, and soon enough he would have his own city to rule until he was to come of age and rule over the entirety of their Empire. It was a weight he was meant to bear, but he would bear it all the same.

Especially with the enemy so close now. They were not only in bed with the enemy, literally and figuratively, but also making deals. His cousin the Grand Duchess was meant for the Princess of Celesin. And while that was happening, Lucian had secured a deal from the Prince Sune'ere. Things were proceeding in a curious way. Plots within plots and such. But the more that time passed, the more that Lucian worried that inevitably the tension would reach its boiling point and soon enough it would be all out war.

The Prince moved quietly through the area, having arrived unannounced, to find his father's presence within the center of this new populous. He stared curiously from the distance within that city as he observed his father speak to their people. To his people and declare that the city was to be open. His chest swelled and he thought of them all. His gaze shifted and he would look upon everyone with a curious expression. These people who rejoiced for their Emperor and chortled loudly as cheers of praise took over the masses. The faintest of smiles came over his young face as he thought of it. This was the kind of reaction that only his father was capable of. Lucian himself had yet to make such an impact. Even his cousin had been able to garner some reaction from her populace in Nexxian City. Perhaps this would be his time to shine.

Lucian's attire had a taste of royalty behind it but it was not glamorous. It was not overbearing with gold. The attire was a black vest with a high collar and black shirt. No hat had been chosen to wear over his head. Instead he had combed the hair back into a nice bun at the back. Along with the matching black pants and shoes, he was attempting to achieve something of a darker look to contrast his father. He moves through that crowd then before finding himself at the front of it all. His eyes boring into his father as perhaps the Emperor would take notice of the arrival of his son. And, just when his father would take notice or feel his presence, would Lucian close the distance.

He moved across the pavement and sank to one knee before the man that he owed his life too. "Father." The Prince would speak out proudly as his head bowed to the Emperor. "Forgive my tardiness. I have arrived."

Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open] Empty Re: Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open]

Korel. Arcerion’s great triumph. Were the man not married to his cousin, Helivant doubted an invitation would have arrived for him. No doubt Arcerion had not yet seen his great triumph with Xillaen’kudure, nor heard of his work in the art of creating life. For what was a god, aside from his power? It was the ability to create life. Myth and legend across so many worlds suggested that true gods simply willed life to exist. But Helivant prefered to think that a great deal of trial and error was involved. Otherwise, how did one explain the dinosaurs of Earth? Someone had used that planet as a petri dish and thrown an asteroid at it when their creations were deemed as failures. He doubted that any true god would throw such a childish tantrum. Like a little boy whose toys don’t work the way he desires, and so he smashes them.

As this was a formal occasion, Helivant was dressed a bit differently this evening. His boots were knee-high, polished to perfection, but with buckles on the outside of his calves. His slacks and jacket were of uniform color, a light-sucking black that seemed to radiate a palpable aura of death and darkness. Upon his breast was his own recently-fashion symbol. A severed hand, dripping, but yet in the act of opening as if to give something. It was colored a deep crimson. The jacket and slacks were of an odd cut. The slacks resembled stiff, military attire, the jacket the same, however there were a few touches that simply seemed. . . wrong. The glimpse of ruffles at the wrist, the unhooked collar that revealed his ascot. Hooked to his shoulders and flowing from them with a cape of crimson velvet that ruffled in the breeze. He stood to one side, observing Arcerion, his glossy black hair falling about his shoulders.

Slitted crimson eyes went straight toward Lucian as the Excerion-Bale moved into the limelight, feigning contrition before Arcerion. He could practically feel the boy’s self-importance from where he stood. Perhaps Arcerion meant to honor him? Doubtful. Playing games with the Dorian Emperor was a foolish gambit. Helivant knew such things first hand. He had been covetous, jealous, and foolish in previous years. He had learned better from his travels amongst the stars. His six-fingered right hand toyed with a metal orb as he watched, an glossy thing of chrome which shined in whatever light glanced off it’s surface. Arcerion, were he to spare Helivant a glance, would recognize it. Kanatal had had thousands the last time he had been in her vault. The only question that would probably cross the Exercion Emperor’s mind might be: Was it occupied?

The so-called thrall who was going to be one of Lucian’s trainers was there, skulking as was his wont. He preferred the shadows. They offered protection and fear, depending upon who looked into them. Xillae was one of those things that went bump in the night. However, this critter would have been offended at being called at thrall. He was already a thrall. To the bitch who had stuffed his head full of shit about obedience. He was well into loathing for that militant skank. And he was on his way to it for Kunkka, his absentee partner who was supposed to be cracking open his brain and pull the stuff out. There had been no evidence of that, certainly. His staj, living metal that it was now, had shifted colors with the changing of his venue. In the darkness that he now inhabited, it was matte black and non-reflective, the links in it whisper-quiet as it shifted back and forth. It drank in the light.

From his vantage point in the shadows, watching the crowd gather, he spotted Arcerion’s spawn. The one he and Kunkka were supposed to be training. Well, Kunkka was supposed to be training. He was going to be used as a punching bag. At least now he was better suited to it. Though if they weren’t careful something untoward might happen to the heir to Arcerion’s throne. He was a more efficient killer these days than he was even before. All thanks to his strange benefactor, who also appeared to be present. Odd. Well, perhaps not so much, given what Helivant had told them during their sojourn into new science. Well, he considered it science. Arcana wasn’t something he was prepared to cope with. An energy matrix contained within a humanoid? Sure. Magic? Not so much.

He ducked out of the window of the building he had been hiding in and climbed down it’s side and onto street level. He then made his way through the crowd, resisting the urge to take on down as prey, and came up on the opposite side of the stair as Helivant. His eyes, black and yet luminous, were fixed upon the Prince and Arcerion, watching. The Emperor’s messenger had interrupted a meal. Now he wondered why.

Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open] Empty Re: Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open]

Post by Arcerion Thu Jul 21, 2016 9:11 pm

Arcerion had noticed those more important guests who had arrived, his son, his cousin, and even along the fringes one of the more interesting specimens of xenobiology. Arcerion was not one to shy away from inviting the Bale's, while they ruled themselves rather effectively without his interference for the most part, he knew useful beings when he saw them. The only Bale's which had not been personally sent an invite were the females Arsceva and Zantria, and those were more out of personal disputes that could dampen the glory of this day then any real disrespect for their powers. His eye's never left his task at hand, and yet he was more then just a pair of eye's. Creeping from beneath his cloak were multiple dark chains three of which were pointed in the position of those three which had arrived and were of importance to him. The feeling of eye's meeting could be felt before he nodded his head.

As Lucian approached and offered apologies he would only briefly turn his head towards the young man. A grin was all he would give to his child and a muted word which was outside of the tune he weaved in the air. "Watch." Not a suggestion but a command. Arcerion supped deep of his pool of Exercion Hunger, tainting the very reality around him with an intense feeling of malice, not towards those present but towards the enemies of their empire. Those close enough to him could for brief moments understand just what this thing before them was. There was no end to his hunger, it was as infinite as time itself, as depthless as the blackness beyond the stars, and as hungry as a man on the brink of starvation.

The brief instant was broken as seventeen black chains moved from behind him, extending out across the Mile long hole. The hooks on the ends of each chain would penetrate the ambient reality, disappearing from view as something beyond the veil was gripped. Noticeable stress crossed Arcerion's face as he wrestled with something that was unseen by all. His arms extended and clawed hands gripped at the world as the staff he had brought with him floated casually in front of him. Now speaking to all, in tune once more his voice carried to those as far away as the edge of town.

"Cardinal of Silhouettes, Highlords of the eternally hungry Eaa. I take what is rightfully mine from your realm. Let Korel be blessed with your presence again, Thargor. Let Sanctum and all it's riches hold our most esteemed Lord's Hold. I call Sydoite the High House of Shadows into being once more, as it once was in the days of the Nexxus wars, so shall it forever be. No longer a Shuinsai only Hold, but for the benefit of all of Dorian." Finishing his ritual he would rip his hands outwards, severing space-time in a brief cataclysm that would be held at bay by the advanced spore fields at the edge of town. None but those present would know the glory he had pulled into existence.

Now before them was a massive structure, composed of some ancient stone beyond time and memory itself. It had the look of a manor, not unlike the emperor's palace upon Kresh'alam Dor. The gate open, and doors wide pillars upheld the outside and the entire structure seemed to dwarf over most buildings in the area. Atop the building itself a collection of shadows moved about in not so human forms. Defender's of the lords hold. When all was said and done, the chains retracted to him, and the tune he had made reached it's crescendo and faded away. Breathing heavily, Arcerion turned not first to his son, but to the crowd, now truly picking Helivant out of the crowd, he could see the orb which he held. His eye's widened a moment at the realization of what the orb was, and he sent his mind out to try and penetrate the orb, to see if it contained anything. He beckoned with his right hand for Helivant to step forward. He had many questions for the Bale, none which he should ask in public. If the Bale chose to ignore the emperor's command for the moment then so be it, he turned to his son, the look of pride upon his face.

"Our hunger cannot be our only tool. Strong as it may be, a wise man does not hedge his bets upon the ace up his sleeve. Step forward and be judged by Sydoite Lucian. Your dealings with others have given you this simple honor of being the first to be judged by your uncle's personal hold. Should it find you lacking, I will not mourn your loss. Should you become one with the Lord's hold I have chosen for you, you will have proven yourself as truly worthy as my heir apparent, surpassing even your Sister, cousins, aunts and uncles." He watched the young Exercion-Bale's reaction. To hear such words from a father who had never once been so blunt with him. It may come as a shock, but in his own way Kanatal's ways had rubbed off on Arcerion in the long run. If his son could not become the first to deal with Sydoite as his uncle before him, Lucian's entire training and birth would of been for naught. From a young age Arcerion had groomed the man to act in not only his image, but also in the image of his long gone uncle.

He crouched to his son, placing a hand upon the boys jaw and cupping it so that he was forced to look his hate filled father dead in the eye's. Was there regret at what he had said in his eye's? Arcerion was a good liar when the time came to do such things. However he needed to be strong for those around him. Bale's were present and if he didn't give them the proof that they desired that his mating with Kanatal was for the best, well a war with Celesin would be long from his thoughts, the Bale's very well might revolt and murder his mate in her sleep as they were want to do. Arcerion would not lose another Mate, the pain and agony of it would destroy him internally, for she was the only thing he knew of in existence who could share the burden of his hate. He spoke to Lucian in a language he rarely used, only Kanatal and others of Exercion blood had been taught the true language of his people. A bastardization of the true voice, which when spoken might warp fate and reality around them in odd ways. "Come back to me my son. Tainted in the core of The Nightmare, shed your fears and be born anew as I once was with your uncle's help, he shall not abandon you in your time of need." He dragged a clawed hand along the boys right cheek, cutting him open just enough to bleed him.

He turned once more towards the crowd, to cheers of praise. The entire town knew of his exploits in some way or another. Let the boy be born again a man that he might lead Dorian to prosperity on Sanctum. If Helivant or the other Xeno who had come here came to speak with him Arcerion would speak. If they stayed where they were, Arcerion would come to Helivant first. The crowd parting around them if he had chosen to remain within the gathered crowd. "It is good to see you cousin. Sanctum should be more lively with someone of your caliber stalking her verdant fields. If you would accept the honor, once Lucian returns, dead or alive, you may have a go at Sydoite. Should he prove wanting, it would be most beneficial to have you here, as acting lord." There had been bad blood between them at some point. Arcerion chose to bury such things with the offer of a town all his own should his son fail to merge with the Lord's Hold.

"Let us speak by the steps, it has been since before the twins were born that I last saw an orb outside of it's vault. I doubt you would bring such a thing to this occasion unless you planned to gather my attention fully. You wish to speak, then we shall speak." Once they were both upon the steps Arcerion would pull order a guard wordlessly to bring them a chairs and table so that they might dine while he waited for his son to come back out, dead or alive. "We've a wide selection of meat, what would be to your liking, I even have a rare treat from my personal stores, if I might offer you something exotic even to your tastes."

Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open] Empty Re: Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open]

Post by Lucian Mon Jul 25, 2016 1:29 am

The Prince had arrived. He had taken some time to survey the area over. He had enjoyed the presence of the people who would be under his charge someday celebrating. He knew that getting a feel for what his people were suffering or going through would only help him in ruling over this nation. The grin that his father gave him was not as assuring as it should have been. The command came and Lucian only nodded his head before he stood back, rising up to his full height, as he surveyed the Emperor with that keen expression. He could feel the power. He could feel his father's very core starting to expand outward so all could stand witness to just what he was capable of.

The chains emerged from the back of his father as they all stood to bear witness at the sight. It was a spectacle truly. And he knew by the exertion from his father that he truly intended for them to witness how strong he could become if ever crossed. The staff had been grasped and Lucian found himself as attentive as the student he had once been as a child when he had been tutored as a child.

The structure was a grand thing. The summon was truly astonishing and Lucian could only wonder about how many years it had been for his father to achieve such a feat. How long had the man been training for this kind of moment? How long would Lucian need to train in order to reach this level of power? To bend both time and space to his mere will? His father had looked back to the crowd and seemed surprised for just the briefest of moments before gesturing to someone. But that mattered little it seemed as Lucian once more was spoken to.
And all at once, he felt the weight of the universe on his shoulders.

If he passed the test before him, this manor of some sort, then he would surpass them all. He would surpass Emarra, he would surpass Jophiel, and all the rest. He felt pride filling his chest at the thought. To succeed and show that he was truly the son of Emperor Arcerion. But if he failed.....

Death. The end. Everything he had worked for, everything he had tried to prove to his father and family, all of it would disappear into nothing but ash. He could not fail. He could not fail his father, his sister, and most of all the Empire.
His father closed the distance between them and grasped his jaw. The blunt words were rough but Lucian minded it little. No. His objective was the structure. A test unlike any other. And as he stared up at his father's stare, he found himself filled with a feeling unlike any other. The desire to overcome this obstacle, knowing that he was his father's chosen heir, and that as his father stared at him that he knew Lucian could do it. And even as the words were spoken as an assurance, a request unlike any other, he could only nod his head to the Emperor. The Prince continued to stare as the clawed finger sliced through his cheek. The blood slowly fell from that wound, a few drops hitting the concrete as the acidic blood melted through the pavement before eventually evaporating, as he nodded his head.

When his father pulled away then, the cheers of praise screaming behind Lucian, he would only stare up at that structure. The Sydoite. He needed to win. He needed to prove himself as the man who could lead this nation and be the successor to his father. His eyes narrowed for the briefest of moments as he recalled another Prince who had looked worse for wear, no doubt having gone through his own trials by his father, but had done his duty.

Lucian stood up to his full height then, moving past his father and the crowd altogether, as he walked up those steps. Each patting of his foot felt like an echo through space and time as Lucian fought the urge to look behind him, to look back at his father for the assurance he needed, and to see the people who were his own.

The Prince would do no such thing. Instead, he would enter that structure alone. His destiny before him all at once. And when he was done....either greatness or failure. Those were his option.

I will not fail you father.

Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open] Empty Re: Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open]

Post by Helivant Mon Jul 25, 2016 7:37 pm

Helivant was a subtle creature at his heart. The purpose of having the orb outside of his own vault was threefold. Yes he wanted to capture Arcerion’s attention, but it was also as a means of defending himself should the Exercion of Hatred choose to renew their old dispute. It was also part of the story he would share with Arcerion. He listened to the speech he gave his son as the boy prepared to face the Hold. His lip curl. He could damn near smell the boy’s fervor for Arcerion’s approval wafting on the breeze. The child disgusted him, quite frankly. He was not a Bale if he had not tried, at least once, to kill his own parents and assume the throne. Kanatal had done it, and Helivant had murdered his own shortly thereafter with the help of his sister, Zantria. However, he did not envy the boy such a tasked. He had long ago realized that confrontation was useless against them.

As for Arcerion’s fear that Helivant might revolt and murder Kanatal in her sleep, such is not the case. He would, without a doubt, make sure she knew just who was killing her. After all, he still held something of a grudge against the woman for murdering her own brother and denying Helivant his destined marriage to her. Old habits and all of that. But soon the crowd was parting to admit Arcerion, who stopped before the Bale. His crimson gaze rested upon the Dorian Emperor as he spoke, then chuckled softly, “Well, cousin, let me assure you of this, at least. If the Sydoite should accept your son, rest assured that it is a boon that I did not face it first. The things going on inside of my head might give it nightmares.”

He was not wrong on that count. Helivant was a being of nightmares, and he had inspired legends on dozens, hundreds perhaps, of worlds with his experiments and his power. Then Arcerion’s focus shifted and he brought up the orb in his hand, “This thing? Yes, there was a purpose in bringing it with me. The first of which is to show you that I have learned much in my travels, and abandoned many old ideas. Such as attempting to separate you and Kanatal for my own personal gain. The second was to tell you a story, but that can wait until we’ve been seated.” Helivant followed the Emperor to the steps and waited, “I’m always open to bribery, Arcerion. Purchasing my good will with delicacies is an excellent ploy.” His little joke. Helivant could, if he desired, cause untold havoc in the Empire at will. However eventually he would be found, crushed and possibly even killed. Arcerion was ruthless enough for it. He would sit when the chairs arrived, “I see you have done very well for yourself, Arcerion. Tell me, have you a flesh shaper?”

Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open] Empty Re: Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open]

Post by Arcerion Mon Jul 25, 2016 10:55 pm

Arcerion watched everyone of Lucians reactions, trying to read and understand his son. He was doing his best to make him proud, and his mother too in their own way. He had denied the Bale’s their usual rights of succession, when it came to the throne he sat upon. It simply would not do to have such internal strife, not when they had things outside of their own realm to focus upon killing. Maybe when relative peace returned, he would allow them their old ways back. But that wouldn’t be until all the other threats to the empire had been subsequently dealt with. For now any attack upon a member of the ruling family, that was not personally sanctioned by him as well as the Empress and one other member, would be considered high treason and met with the strictest of punishments.

As his son passed through the Threshold of Sydoite, the doors would slam shut, and it would prevent no further entry until either the body was spit out, or the boy came out a man. Hopefully the Bael present could appreciate his work, though it would pale in comparison to the task of murdering his father, his father had still done what others might call unthinkable and thrown him into danger intentionally. Hearing Helivant’s words about giving the thing nightmares he would chuckle in good nature. “I’m sure whatever lurks in the shadows of the Bale mind are the things of nightmares.” It was left unsaid that he was grateful as always for what continued support that they could all provide.

As they were seated he listened intently to what Helivant said, speaking of catching his attention, and learning much in his travels. The fact that he admitted to no longer wanting to separate him from Kanatal brought a nod from the emperor. “Good, another Bale ally is always useful. Your logical minds give new perspective where others of the family may falter.” As he was seated he would grin when Helivant seemed intent on sampling the goods. He licked his lips and nodded to one of the assistants to bring out a slice of meat that would meet even the most exotic of tastes. “I know the way to a Bale’s heart is through their stomach. Or in unfortunate cases, through their parents, specifically with a permanent method of disposal. I recall my mate telling me how she disposed of hers, concrete and the ocean. Fiendish, yet I prefer an airlock and the heart of a star.” He chuckled at that and then the next thing was brought up while they waited on their meal.

My skill in shaping the flesh is limited to my own body, and the dead. Unfortunately my touch leaves most living beings in a state of at best, constant writhing pain as their own bodies revolt against themselves. Of course the more likely scenario is that they simply expire and turn to dust. Very useful of course, with the orchestra at my command now. Are you offering your services?” he tilted his head, curiously before the food was brought forth.

Steaks served they were uncooked unless Helivant prefered his meat cooked, the meat was not something one might find outside of his store rooms. Cut from a large portion of the chest where good meat could be found. If tasted it would be succulent and filling, juices preserved as if they had just cut it from the thing that produced it. Yet there was something indescribable in it, that pulled at the brain to consume more. The blood hot and addicting, the meat with just enough resistance that one had to chew it more and more, even with all their sharpened teeth. After the first bite Arc wiped his mouth and spoke. “I hope it is to your liking. This meat will never again be seen in this world. It is the former Exercion of Fear we consume, Elsydion.” He took another bite, savoring his brother which was now contained in ice, still living but in a stasis which rendered his Exercion abilities inert.

These Lord’s holds, they have sprung up everywhere. Sometimes even without my calling them. Houses which hold at bay dimensional rifts to the elemental planes. I’ve a theory on what causes them, but we’ll save that for after our meal. Please you said you had a story for me? You know just the kind of offering to give me in good faith.” As a bard, and lover of tales, he would never deny a good story.

Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open] Empty Re: Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open]

Post by Helivant Tue Jul 26, 2016 3:37 pm

Helivant’s soft chuckle had a sinister feel to it as he responded, “You understand us little if you think that the murders of our parents are unfortunate. If young Lucian has not attempted to end you at least once so far, he lacks proper Bale pride and Kanatal should be flogged for not being harder on him. However, I understand that you have decreed that any unsanctioned attack upon the royal family is considered treason.” He smiled his sinister smile, “I would like to mention, for your own sake, that such an attack would only be treason if he failed.” He had considered it odd that Arcerion would not have closed that little loophole. “I will say this, though. I remember the look of pride on my father’s face as I drowned him, my sister Zantria by my side and doing the very same thing to our mother. She and I made a rather excellent team, at times. No, the murders of our parents are not unfortunate. Rather, they help us to grow into our power. Without this, we would be weak and dependent upon others.” The phrase ‘A Bale’s cruelty knows no bounds’ was an apt expression of the Bale mind.

Who could expect anything different from a creature that could not experience emotions such as joy or love? There was no goodness in the Bale heart, and that suited them just fine. He took the slab of raw meat and as he cut himself a piece with knife and fork he looked at Acerion when he spoke of just where this meat had come from. He paused in the act, “Truly? You honor me, Arcerion, by feeding me the flesh of your own brother.” He took his first bite, savoring the tastes of brother the meat and the blood, his eyes closing in bliss. He strictly controlled his thoughts when devouring Elysdion’s flesh, however. For it lead down a path and to a question he knew he did not want to contemplate: What would Arcerion’s flesh taste like?

He sat back, wiping his mouth with the napkin provided, “Well, yes, a story. And do not think I have ignored your previous question. I would simply rather have you hear my story and see my work for yourself before you decide. It started roughly a century ago now. I was traveling the planes, moving from world to world, collecting souls to fuel my magic, when I came upon a curious planet. There were creatures there that I had never encountered before. This may not seem strange to you. As I said I was discovering new worlds for myself. However, creatures that had evolved without an epidermis? Without any natural protection from radiation or contaminants within the scope of their own world? Unlikely. As I began to kill and study them, I realized that they were artificial. Bred in a petri dish. Someone’s failed experiments.”

He took another bite and  wiped his mouth again before continuing, “Now the question became, who had such skill? And where was this person? You may or may not know of my own experiments into the realm of flesh shaping, but regardless, I was intrigued. I was fetched by one of the more successful experiments of the scientist, and when brought into her presence I was astounded. She was human. That a human could have the technology and resources to create life was astonishing. She was a scientist in every sense of the word. And she had never seen anything such as I. She wanted to study me. We came to a bargain she and I. She could study me in exchange for her knowledge. Eventually we became lovers as well, but once she began to see into my mind she knew she had made a fatal error. And that was the day I killed her.”

He held up the orb which had garnered so much interest from Arcerion, “I carry her with me wherever I go, so that I might ravage her mind for the last of her secrets and torment her. She feels guilt about giving me so much power over life. I amuse myself by telling her my plans for her knowledge.” He grinned widely, “She screams and rails against me by the hour, you know. And curses herself for her foolishness. But I digress. Anyway, after I had adapted her knowledge to mine, combined the two really, I began to work on something special. To see if I could create sentient life. I succeeded, in a sense. It was an amalgamation of flayed, raw souls placed into a malleable Soul Prison. But it could not sustain itself, as it had no life of it’s own. The result stands out there.” He motioned out to the crowd to where Xillae stood, “I took notice of your interest in him and strove to improve him for you, Arcerion. I think you will be pleased with the result.”

Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open] Empty Re: Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open]

Post by Arcerion Wed Jul 27, 2016 2:02 am

Arcerion took a sudden hardened and displeased look in his face as Helivant mentioned his mate being flogged. Sure he didn’t love her, but at the same time, she was one of a very small circle he could simply not bring himself to hate, despite some of the cruelty she had inflicted upon him and his family. Aware of his expression he let it return to neutrality as he spoke from some deep seeded core of logic. “Allow me then to explain my reasoning for dismissing this tradition of the Bales. There are few of you, a planet’s population centers can only realistically support but so many of you. It becomes a necessity of both food and territorial pride that forces you all to strike against your parents. However when expanding onto not only multiple planets, but into entire solar systems, and sectors the food shortage becomes negligible, and territory rarely becomes a problem. There is after all only so much a single being can rule themselves without governors to oversee the day to day affairs. You all may see it as me, an interloper striking at the cores of your traditions. I however see it differently. I am keeping my forces sated, and my elites well trained for the day I will need you to truly bring the terror of the Bale name upon those who would wipe all of us monsters from existence. If a day comes that food and territory once again overlap and become problematic, then I believe the old ways will need to be reinstated. For now however, you should understand I have given you all a respite from the old ways to grow your power beyond a measure that your parents would never of been capable of.” He nodded a moment, while the slabs of meat were laid in front of them. Hearing Helivants words he could only grin and nod.

A simple peace offering is all. We have had our differences in the past.” He continued to dine while Helivant spoke his story. Arcerion was attentive, keeping eye contact and chewing the meat which had been provided to him. He chuckled when he mentioned taking the scientist for a lover, and then killing her when she knew his true intentions. Humans were so fragile and short lived, she should be thanking him for giving her a form of immortality beyond her days. As he mentioned the thing he had taken an interest in, and how they were now out in the city he would grin a bit. Setting his utensils down with meal half finished he would wipe his own mouth. Manners were always important when dealing with noble’s, especially in front of the revelry which had sprung up around them as the city grounds turned more and more into a fair. “Truly you are a man with no boundaries. To kill your own mate upon the birth of her revelation, you cared not to temper her mind to your cause, only to take what was yours. There was a chance you could of swayed her to your side, already her morals were not in line with most of her kind.

I see, the male must be most pleased with his additions. It should give him some extra power in comparison to his female counterpart. Though Kunkka should not be taken lightly should you encounter her. She gave Kanatal pause back in the day.” He pondered a moment before nodding, a lifeshaper would be a grand thing to have, and with his cold logical mind there were many ways he could exploit it for the gain of all. “Tell me Helivant, have you had much time in your travels to study the spores from which most of this galaxies technology draws its power? With your skills you may be able to unlock hidden potential within the small psionic fungus.” He waited patiently for an answer from his cousin while he took another bite of the meat before wiping his lips while listening. Once more he spoke.

Surely you have encountered the Lord’s Holds upon your travels as well? I find them to be a rather useful source of power. Though nowhere near as strong as my hunger, they allow me the ability to supplement what few weaknesses I posses. Have you found one to your liking to attune to? Maybe somewhere out there is a Hold that could supplement you even further.” He smiled and looked towards the Hold before them wondering just what his son would encounter in there. By simply stepping into the threshold he could attune to the hold as he had done in ages past. However that would temper the building to him, and his desires. He needed this place to be Lucian’s own capital, his place to rule. Much like the Experiment in Nexxian with his niece, Lucian would be given a chance to prove himself on Sanctum. Hopefully unlike his niece, he wouldn’t fall for the wiles of some Celesin princess. Maybe someone from Black Sun would suit him better, or even a Bale from a different bloodline. There was no need for Lucian to find an Exercion mate after all, their genetics would do the rest and instill the hunger into whatever offspring he would beget.

Tell me Helivant. What do you know of Celesin? How would you deal with their militaristic threat? I’ve a few ideas that are both fermenting in my mind, and others which have already been enacted. I find the Black Sun’s nationalistic pride to be a useful testing ground for a new form of take over. One which might take centuries to come to fruition. Surely you are aware of the concept that a man may be killed, no matter how powerful he or she is. Ideals and ethos however are harder to crush. Things passed on from father to son, mother to daughter. There are many less bloody ways to wage war after all.

Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open] Empty Re: Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open]

Post by Helivant Sun Jul 31, 2016 11:11 pm

Helivant sighed deeply as Arcerion went on his coldly logical explanation of his reasons why he had placed a ban upon Bale ways, however temporary, “Yes, Arcerion, and while all of that makes sense, you seem to lack the understanding of our true natures. We may appear economical, refined, and even logical. But ours is a twisted logic, warped by our own psychological imbalances. Those things other beings can feel, such as love, are anathema to us. We cannot, and will never, understand such things. What is left comes to a sadistic core built around greed, lust, and a desire to increase our own power. Once we have developed to a certain age, we begin to covet the power that belongs to our parents. Their thrones, in the case of your lovely wife, for instance. Males are, in a way, only useful to female Bales as breeding partners. No doubt Kanatal would view my achievements with amusement.”

“Believe me when I say there are so few of us for a reason. Fewer hands reaching for the pie means that all can be watched for signs of treachery. Were there to be more of us, we would butcher one another without mercy until such time as we felt secure in our own power again.” Helivant gave this little lesson in a very reasonable tone of voice which plainly state that Arcerion’s ignorance was forgivable. However, Helivant was also a superb liar. Kanatal had not even bothered to instruct her own mate on the intricacies of the Bale mind? She was appearing more and more like a woman who had put her defences  down and settled into a comfortable life in which she had no enemies. Her own mate’s ignorance of the danger Arsceva and Zantria would present to Emarra, if she ever came to the throne in Borokai, was alarming.

He chuckled at Arcerion’s reaction to his little tale of his former lover’s woe, “Humans are always enamored of us, Arcerion. Human lovers are, as they say, a dime a dozen. Her remaining secrets I tortured from her, naturally. Swaying her to my point of view was pointless after that, not to mention it would have been pointless. But I digress.” He used humans. There could be genius amongst them, yes. But stupidity was a rampant trait that not even he could stamp out, should he decide to try. He tilted his head, “As a matter of fact, I have not. It seems to be quite interesting, though I have been consumed with other work, such as moving my facilities to this galaxy. I might look into it, should you desire.”

He glanced toward the last place Xillae had been standing only to see that the alien male had moved, “He did when last I spoke with him. I examined the possibility of approaching his opposite, however it seemed as though she had already been tampered with, and I decided upon Xillae. He was. . . more pure. As for this Kunkka, I doubt I will give her a wide berth, but should our paths cross I will ensure that she leaves the encounter with the understanding that I am not to be trifled with.” Helivant had become a force to be reckoned with in the years after he had separated himself from the idea of being Kanatal’s mate. Given a choice, he would kill Arsceva and simply remain unattached, unless some being he desired crossed his path. One he could put up with, perhaps.

“Surprisingly enough, I have not encountered one. I might go looking, however I find that my power is better suited applied to my work rather than confrontation, and my work requires finesse far more than raw power.” He was less interested in the power of the place and more interested in what insights he might gain through attuning himself to one. As Arcerion changed the subject, however, he arched a brow, “Militaristic threat? I suppose what kind of threat the pose? Is it in soldiers, science, arcana users? Each has a different answer. For instance, faced with an invasion of humans or meta-humans, one might simply create a biological weapon to wipe them out before they made any headway. Science and arcana are more difficult.” He spread his hands, leaning back slightly in his chair, “I will be honest, Arcerion, I know little of the situation here. I have come into contact with only two beings since my arrival, excluding you. Xillae and one King Nebuchadnezzar. The artificial woman. Intriguing, she is. But as for your suggestion, I know little of how to best conquer a nation. Instinct tells me to conquer through fear or arcane might. Martial might seems the fastest route, however if a peaceful annexation is what you desire then you may be on the right track.” He doubted, however, that Arcerion’s enemies would wait so long.

Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open] Empty Re: Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open]

Post by Kanatal Tue Aug 02, 2016 5:26 pm

An obscene amount of people was not a thing that ever bothered Kanatal, nor was it unusual to find her mate at the core of it all.  Given the few times they had crossed one anothers paths since the events with her foreign cousins had been in private, she had opted not to leave this meeting that way at all.  There was also the small fact her shadows had murmured that her darling cousin Helivant was to be in attendance.  All the better in her mind, she could kill two birds with one stone.

The Queen strode with glacial regality through a throng of beings that willing parted for her.  How could they not when greeted with the beautiful facade of the bales at its finest.  Slender as always, the Bale Queen boasted brilliant eyes of ice blue that easily disregarded everything and one that fell within her line of vision, the slit pupils fine lines of black narrowed against the light of the day.  Ink black hair flowed loose down her back, the wind catching at the fine silky strands to spin it out and around narrow hips that swayed hypnotically with the motion of her near soundless step.  There were no shoes on her feet, a faint chime of silver charms audible only as she passed one by.  A gown of deep crimson velvet garbed her alluring figure, the bodice form fitted only to have the skirt fall loose in waves of fine fabric to trail in a fishtail behind her.

The gown was not the only thing to trail behind her.  A shadowy mist drifted along as well, the swirling darkness causing some of those she passed to recoil with looks of pure horror shining on their faces.  It merely made the Queen’s lips quirk at the corners, a hint of faint amusement spark in those icy eyes.  There was no doubt those that recoiled from her had seen what lurked in that ashen fog that flowed in her wake, the myriad of tormented faces that drifted up to view for a breath before vanishing back into the drowning mist.  Along the ground came the liquid flow of what appeared to be black ink, fingers of it darting out ahead of her and likely the cause of what made the seas of people part for her.  Few appeared eager to have any contact with the odd behaving fluid, almost sentient in the way it reached out curiously towards the living.

She had not missed the emergence of the massive structure, having watched from afar before making her way forwards to where she had see Arcerion, Lucian, and Helivant.  Guards were always so very helpful in ushering the Bale Queen towards her mate and cousin, the last being so kind as to lead her right to where the table and chairs had been set out for the two to enjoy their meal.  Kanatal paused as she waited for the guard to bow his head and depart, a woman garbed entirely in black leather with a deep hood and cloak came into view to the Queen’s right flank, silvery eyes flashing within the shadow that kept her face from sight.  This woman was obviously armed, swords and daggers evident alongside a single pistol braced to her thigh plus however more went hidden on her figure.  Taking a moment to study the seated pair, the cloaked woman sunk back into the shadow a short distance away.  Out of sight, out of mind.

Kanatal allowed a bright smile to curve along her shapely lips, a nod of her head made to the two as she stepped forwards once more.  A hand lifted towards Arcerion, her gaze making a perusal of Helivant however with a mixture of intentions fueling the cool delight lingering in her eyes. “Helivant.  Arcerion.  How fortunate it is to find you both in one place.  I can only hope you are both doing well.”

She spoke with charm and finesse, the melodic tone of her voice the sort to be found captivating in some ears even if not likely in present company.  Whether she actually even cared how they were wasn’t terribly evident, but one stepped through the common niceties for those that watched and rarely for any other reasoning.  Her gaze moved from Helivant then up to Arcerion, her smile finally touching the corners of her eyes briefly.  She was genuinely pleased to see him.  “And here I thought you said killing the children wasn’t an option, My darling.”

Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open] Empty Re: Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open]

Post by Arcerion Tue Aug 02, 2016 7:38 pm

Arcerion listened in rapt fascination to Helivant as he explained the Bale condition. The way they presented themselves being a simple facade which might be ripped apart when placed under more scrutiny. Was he so enamored with his queen that he had simply miscalculated her for being logical to a fault? No, he knew the Empress' passions ran deep. He'd seen that dark passion first hand on many occasions and had to tend to his wounds afterwards. He chuckled at the mention of males being only useful as breeding partners. He was aware of that, and surely just about all the other female bales looked upon him as a wayward mate who was playing at being a leader because the one who held his leash allowed him too. The bias against his gender was almost impossible to overcome in Bales, except through raw physical power. As Helivants tone changed, Arc heard it more as an apology for his lack of understanding, which was fine. However it felt to him almost like the Bale was treating him with kid's gloves. This was not something Arcerion appreciated. He was after all many times older than them, and while his logic may not be twisted in the same core as Helivants was, there was no doubt that the emperor of Dorian was a monster in his own way.

"You've made your point fairly clear Helivant. I struggle to comprehend the Bale mind, and for good reason after all if I were a bale, there would of hardly been an eye batted when Kanatal chose me as mate, so long as I could defend myself. However I am not a Bale, as wonderful an existence as that may be, I am an Exercion, and my children share blood with me as well as Kanatal. Seeing as they are the first two of what I hope to be many more newly made Exercion's I believe discretion is the best course of action until we see just which genetic mentality reigns supreme. As a flesh crafter surely you are at least curious to see what the genes of your cousin, and the one she chose as her equal can accomplish. Should either of them fail, it was just a bad test run, and we shall learn from the mistake with the next one's. After all my mother has uses for souls should problems arise." He chuckled faintly and continued to eat as he listened to Helivant answering questions that he had posed to him. The man seemed an introvert with a noble's sensibilities. If he didn't know better he might of asked if she was related to Nebuchadnezzar.

He swallowed a bit of meat and let his eye's glance sideways for a moment at where the crowd was parting. A grin came to his features as he could sense the presence of his Empress making her way through the crowds of celebrating people. Though many naturally moved away from her, some were drawn in to her dark beauty and the darkness which moved around here. These kind of people, with their curiosity about the true culture at the heart of Dorian, they were the one's to keep an eye out for. Though no one dared to touch the Empress, or what followed her, there were certainly whispers among the crowd. But as she left through people would resume their jovial nature. Not only had the Emperor blessed them with a Hold to give whoever would govern the town, but now the Empress herself graced them. For good or ill, the fact that not one but two pure blooded Bale's were in town could be seen as an omen of great power to come. The Dorian people were a hardy sort after all, one had to be to live in a realm with monsters like the Exercions, the Bales, and the things they made together.

"I look forward to your own opinion on the technologies power source. After all new ways of looking at things are always welcome as far as scientific advancement is concerned." As Kanatal came upon the steps of the Hold, he would turn to a guard and silently nod, she would need a chair unless she preferred to stand, or simply sit upon her mate's lap. He rarely told Kanatal what to do. Besides the fact that it was good manners on his part, he knew that telling her what to do was near useless. His mate would do as she pleased unless physically stopped. The chair was placed down on his right, and he would interject with a question. "Hungry?" If she wanted food it would be delivered, much the same as Helivant and he had dined upon the flesh of his brother, so too could Kanatal enjoy such things. Though she was probably more used to tasting Exercion flesh than anyone else present. He caught the look she gave him, and he returned it in kind, though the smile broke off into a chuckle as she spoke of their children. He reached out for her hand to lightly take in his own and kiss the top of the bales six-digit hand.

"What can I say, all these years with you by my side have certainly rubbed off on me Empress. However if my boy dies in there it won't be my fault. It will be his own foolishness. Hopefully he can come out safely to see that his mother even took an interest in his trials." He tried to hide the pleasure in his voice at her arrival, it was something he was honestly incapable of. He would give Helivant a chance to answer Kanatal while he simply took in her look. Once there was a moment for him to interject about the things they had spoken of before Arcerion would answer a few fallacies in Helivants assumption.

"While the Hold's are indeed powerful, their power is better used by subtle hands, not unlike a scalpel. In powerful hands it can end lives, surely, but in the right skilled hands it can make works of art." He nodded to Helivant as he seemed on the right track, at least as far as Bale minds were concerned. It was what he expected of them. Sometimes it was good not to simply be surprised by others. "Fear and Arcane might are fantastic tools, military prowess is itself fantastic, though considering the general abilities of those present, I feel we each count as a small army in our own way." He chuckled and finally addressed the last way to conquer people. "I find peaceful annexation to be the slowest and yet most effective. Through trade, and cultural influence and migration you can have people come under your wing willingly. A willing subject is much more likely to work with you, and maybe one day throw their life away for you, out of some misguided notion of loyalty." He took to his wine, sipping it before grinning between both of them. "Then again, can you all blame me for wanting to play with the emotions of others like some puppeteer? I was practically bred to do it." He chuckled and let his gaze fall upon the Holds closed doors, wondering just how well his son was faring in there, with that on his mind his eye's would go wide as he looked to his mate with a mischievous grin on his face. "My queen, I have some wonderful news for you by the way. An old friend of ours has agreed to train Lucian in the art of combat, and she is quite looking forward to seeing you again. Kunkka is still as odd and predatory when last we saw her, I'm sure she'll curl around you like a cat demanding attention just like before."

He took a moment to let conversation continue as he needed a moment to broach a subject, but just how to convince the Bale's present that he was in the right of things was interesting. Finally as his food was finished he would need to be frank with Helivant, after all they were now upon Sanctum and things could get tricky if they all didn't act as one. "You should know that this bit of land we're enjoying was bought from the neighboring Empire. Black Sun they call themselves. The price was oddly cheap considering the massive amount of resources beneath the ground. All they wished for was technological assistance and the ability to aid them in war. If you wish to go hunting in the lands outside of Korel, just stay subtle. I'm relying on their kind to spark a fire, that I'll fan into an inferno. Rest assured my goals have never changed. Just the methods." The last bit spoken was more directed at Kanatal, as she may be doubting the edge that this man who was her mate might have.

Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open] Empty Re: Korel, raise your voice to the stars! [Open]

Post by Helivant Sat Aug 13, 2016 12:18 am

The idea that Kanatal considered Arcerion her equal was laughable. In fact, he did give a soft chuckle when the man mentioned it. If Kanatal thought of Arcerion as her equal, then Helivant was a human. No, he thought it more likely that she saw Arcerion as the most attractive option for breeding in a rather small pool of candidates. However, Helivant let this slide without comment as he continued to eat the flesh of Arcerion’s own brother. He would always remember the moment when he heard that voice again. Like the bell tolling to signal the end of his fair fortune. Kanatal in his life had always been. . . rough. His resentment at being married to a harridan when in reality, he was supposed to be reaching for greatness at her side. The old hatreds came bubbling up for a moment before he cleared his throat and stood, leaving them behind once more. He turned to face Kanatal, his crimson, slitted eyes taking her in from head to toe. He felt. . . very little. Yes, of course he still desired her. What creature with his dark heart would not? However, it was a hollow thing. As though it had faded a very long time ago. True, he longed for a mate to match him. Such fun they could have, however it was not necessary. Not something he needed. Thus it could fall by the wayside. His immortality had not yet been challenged. He had no reason to believe that it would in the near future.

Helivant smiled slightly and bowed his head, “Kanatal. A pleasure to see you. I was beginning to wonder whether you had given up on ruling in Borokai.” When she sat, he too would sit and look across the table at Arcerion and Kanatal. He would turn away from their moment of reunion, of course. He had no desire to see such things, despite his more evolved mentality. However, as Arcerion refocused upon him his gaze would return, and a response would be forthcoming rather quickly, “As you can see, if I were to attempt this attunement, I would first need quite a bit of studying. After all, one must first understand power in order to use it to best effect.” He shifted his gaze to Kanatal as he left Arcerion’s speech on conquering a nation wash over him. Oh he absorbed it, alright, however he was also pondering the question of Kanatal. Why here? Why now? Was it because he had reared his head and shown a willingness to embrace his once-rival? No. Kanatal loved conflict. So what was it about this particular gathering that had drawn her? Despite his own narcissism, he rejected the possibility that he was the sole reason for her coming out of the shadows.

He turned his gaze to Arcerion, “As you say best, Arcerion. Your way certainly leaves you more people to feed upon. Kanatal must have told you that our bodies only require feeding once a fortnight. Any excessive feeding behaviors you may have witnessed in your bedroom were purely for pleasure, I assure you.” Once more his eyes ranged to Kanatal. Apprehension was simmering just beneath the surface. He had to understand the why of it all. He glanced back to Arcerion, “As you wish. Though without a mate who shares my predisposition for random acts of cruelty and bloodshed you have no reason to fear exposure from me. No, people will only go missing every now and then from Dorian itself, and never the same place twice.”

Once more his eyes moved to Kanatal and finally he spoke, with the eloquence he had learned over the centuries since their last meeting, “Forgive my preoccupation with you, cousin, but it seems strange to me that you would choose the here and now to appear. I have re-entered your domain only recently and you once more become active in the affairs of the universe? An odd coincidence, if coincidence it is. So tell me, dearest cousin, what brings you out to this auspicious occasion?” Oh yes, there was suspicion in that voice, despite the fact that it dripped honey. He was concerned that she may have been planning things for him that he might not want. After all, she had done it before. Why not again?
